Telegram is near the one billion users numbers. According to Pavel Durov there are currently 950 million users, 50 millions more than in April. The popular messaging app only needs 50 million more users to reach a billion but it’s still heavily behind the WhatsApp figures. However, Telegram is already developing its own app store.
The Meta messaging app has near 3 billion users, but Telegram won’t stop with a billion users. The app is also working in the development of Telegram app store, a space to share and download different apps.
Near the billion users Telegram aims towards the future
According to official counts, Telegram had 800 million users in July 2023.In April 2024 there were 900 registered users and now there’s a new milestone in 950 million users. Before the end of 2024 it’s very likely that Telegram will reach the billion users number.
WhatsApp is still far away, but Telegram is already ahead of Snapchat and very close to Facebook Messenger from Meta. After Facebook Messenger, the other messaging app is WeChat with 1.3 billion users nowadays.
App store Web3 and security protection for Telegram
Telegram is still very centered on blockchain, TON and Web3. The latest updates are a proof of this. They introduce collectable user names as well as miniapps. The miniapps will have their own app store in Telegram along an integrated browser with Web3 support.
The crypto has also opened the door for scammers. Durov promised that Telegram will intensify the efforts to fight against scams. The changes will show month and registry country for public accounts as well as a decentralized market for third party verification of channels. The future of Telegram is promising and the 1 billion mark is not that far away. It’s just a matter of time before the app reaches a new milestone in the app lifetime.
