In 2025, Minecraft will no longer support VR, but it will be coming to PS5 with improvements

Changes are coming to Minecraft. Mojang, the team behind the game, announced that in March 2025 Minecraft will end official support for virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) devices on PlayStation, although it will bring improvements on PS5.

End of VR and MR support in Minecraft

The news came from the most recent patch notes for the Bedrock edition of Minecraft. They mention that, after March 2025, the game will no longer receive updates or technical support for VR and MR devices.

Despite this, players who still enjoy the game in its virtual worlds will not lose access to their creations or their purchases in the Marketplace, as long as they use a computer monitor.

But, improvements are coming for PS5

But it’s not all gloom. For a long time, PS5 owners had to make do with the PS4 version of Minecraft, which limited graphical quality and performance. Now, the PS5 edition of Minecraft will offer 4K resolution and 60fps, improving visual quality and allowing for a longer draw distance.

Additionally, Mojang has decided to make this upgrade free for those who already own the PS4 version. This news, along with the recent release of the “Bundles of Bravery” update, is perfect for those who want to get into blocky adventures or start a new one.

Final thoughts

While the decision to stop supporting VR and MR may seem like a step back for the game, it’s clear that Minecraft continues to evolve in other ways. Its massive success shows no signs of slowing down, and the graphical and performance improvements could see the game continue to attract new players and veterans alike.
