Netflix adds option to download full seasons on iPhone and iPad

Netflix has rolled out a long-awaited feature for iPhone and iPad users: downloading full seasons with a single tap. Until now, those using iOS or iPadOS devices had to download each episode individually, which was tedious and time-consuming. With this update, the process is much faster, making it easier to access content offline.

This option is not new for Android devices, but Apple devices had been lagging behind in this regard. Now, with the latest update to the app on iOS and iPadOS 17.0 or later, the company is bringing both platforms into line.

How Netflix’s new full season download option works

The season download button is located on each series’ viewing page, right next to the share option.

When you tap it, all episodes of the selected season will automatically begin downloading.

Once the process is complete, users can manage their downloads from the My Netflix tab, where it is also possible to delete episodes or control the available storage on the device.

This feature will be appreciated by those who want to watch content without an Internet connection, whether during long flights, train rides, or in places where access to Wi-Fi or mobile networks is limited or unstable.

Detail: Netflix added the ability to watch content offline in 2016. Over time, the streaming platform has improved this feature with features such as Smart Downloads, which automatically replace already watched episodes with the next available one.

Most downloaded series and subscriptions

As part of the announcement, Netflix revealed which have been the most downloaded series on its platform. Among them are popular titles such as the first two seasons of “The Squid Game,” “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” “One Piece,” and “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.”

These improvements and original content seem to be paying off, as in the last quarter Netflix added 19 million new subscribers, marking a record in its history. However, this could change and lose subscribers due to the increase in prices on its subscription plans. Currently, following the recent price hike, their ad-free premium plan is $24.99 per month, while the standard ad-free plan has gone up to $17.99. Meanwhile, the ad-supported tier now costs $7.99 per month.

There are also differences in the amount of content that can be downloaded depending on the type of subscription: ad-free plans allow up to 100 active downloads per device, while ad-supported plan users can only download up to 15 pieces of content per month.
