WhatsApp thanks to end to end encryption is one of the most secure messaging apps you can find. No one can see your conversations apart from you or the receiver. However, there’s a chance that the receiver shows your chat to others or they can even take a screenshot.
Even though the encryption protection system turns WhatsApp into an attractive messaging option, reality shows that it’s not infallible. Other users may take screenshots without you noticing it and they can save your conversations.
WhatsApp doesn’t warn you if screenshots are taken
At the beginning, WhatsApp was only a messaging app. But nowadays it’s a full environment where people share documents, photos, videos and more. When you expose more material in your chats, then you have more privacy issues. It’s only logical to worry about private information leaks through your own conversations.
You may think that WhatsApp will warn you if someone takes a screenshot of your chat, but the answer is no. It’s also possible for you to capture what others say in a screenshot because WhatsApp won’t send any alarm. It’s possible to go unnoticed when you screenshot states, profile photos or a complete conversation. The only moment when you can’t take a screenshot, is for one time only photos.
The one time only photo will disappear after your contact watches it, so it’s a kind of alarm. But nobody can take a screenshot for those media files. In WhatsApp user privacy policies it’s indicated that the user is protected against suspicious activities. But the responsibility at the end of the day is on you.
Will WhatsApp ever show you a screenshot warning?
Just like other META platforms like Instagram and Facebook, the user won’t receive any screenshot warning. There’s only the option of sending a message that disappears and the app erases them immediately after being seen.
Both apps will indicate the users that the one time only message has been watched. In Messenger and Instagram chat you can screenshot one time only messages but you will receive a notification. It’s possible that WhatsApp will receive this feature update sooner or later too.
